Emily

Kia Ora!

My name is Emily. I’m currently in my 2nd year of Civil Engineering at University of Canterbury. I am able to tutor Physics, Calculus, and Japanese.

At Christchurch Girls’ High School, I achieved Excellence endorsed in every NCEA level, gaining over 200 excellence credits in my time there. In Year 13, I was academic prefect, head of academic committee and in charge of peer tutoring. My efforts in high school allowed myself to be awarded the UC Hiranga scholarship for academic excellence and the TAIT Women in Engineering scholarship.

I love all things STEM and have found a passion in teaching and directing students to their full potential. In my spare time, I love staying active in the UC gym, and exploring Christchurch with my friends.

Furthermore, growing up half-Japanese and half-kiwi has equipped me with proficiency in both English and Japanese. This language competency can prove invaluable, especially with dealing with students who may have English as their second language. This means I can effective bridge communication gaps, as well as build stronger connections with my students.

I understand first hand how hard NCEA can be, but I believe with the right direction anyone can achieve to their best. No matter your academic goals, big or small, I’m here to support you! Looking forward to meeting you all.
