Our tutors work one-on-one with students, providing a professional service that responds directly to every student’s needs. We mainly assist high school students towards NCEA, as well as Cambridge and IB. We also tutor primary school students, as well as adults for a range of entry courses and tertiary level study.

This is your opportunity to join our team of primary and secondary school tutors and be part of the largest one-on-one tutoring company in Christchurch.

Please note that tutors are required to be vaccinated, and provide a vaccine certificate, according to the existing Government Health Order that requires that those working in the Health and Education sectors are vaccinated, including in-home tutors

AHeadStart has high expectations of our tutors, so if you would like to tutor NCEA we expect you are:

• able to tutor in a minimum of THREE subjects to a Merit or Excellence level at Level 3, which a core subject of English, Mathematics or Science.
• willing and able to assist students with every achievement standard in each subject you can tutor in.

We need tutors who can help students with:

• Accounting, Economics 
• Mathematics, Calculus, Statistics
• General Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth & Space Science
• English, Drama, Media Studies, Social Studies
• Geography, History
• Art History, Classical Studies,
• Digital Technology, Technology
• French, German, Japanese, Spanish
• Music Theory
• Physical Education

If you are interested in being a tutor with us, you must: 

• have a passion for your subjects.
• be eager to help younger students achieve their goals.
• be organised and punctual.
• be available for a minimum of 8 hours of tuition per week, but more is preferable.
• be available during the school terms.
• be willing and able to travel to at least 4 public libraries or to student's homes. A minimum of a 4km radius is expected. The most commonly used libraries are the Fendalton Library, Papanui Library, University of Canterbury and the Upper Riccarton Library, The ability to travel throughout Christchurch and to surrounding areas such as Lincoln and Rangiora will give you an advantage over other applicants.
• be able to commit until late November of each given year. Preferably you will also be available to tutor for several years. This allows you to build long-lasting and rewarding relationships with students and parents.
• prepared to commit to tutoring for several years, where possible.

You will have an advantage over other applicants if you have reliable transport to travel throughout Christchurch, and to surrounding areas such as Lincoln and Rangiora. 

In addition to tuition we offer training, opportunities to help with various assignments to build our tuition brand and profile, as well as social occasions with fellow tutors.

Note: Successful applicants will be considered independent contractors (self-employed) therefore those on student visas are ineligible to apply.

Our tutors receive a highly competitive remuneration depending on the tuition plan chosen by the student. Additional payments relating to travel are available, that depend on the tutorial location. Remuneration increases are proportional to length of service.
