Digital technologies are electronic devices, methods or systems that generate, store or process data. These include mobile devices, cloud computing, social media, online games, multimedia and productivity applications.

Digital technology involves digitizing information so that it is recorded in binary code. Binary code is combinations of the digits 0 and 1. Digital technology allows huge amounts of information to be compressed and stored on small storage devices. This makes it easy for information to be both transported and preserved. Digital data can also be transmitted very quickly has transformed how people communicate, work and learn.

An understanding of Digital Technology will be an advantage for all students, but particularly those who are wishing to develop digital solutions for any kind of purpose.

Level 1
Level 1 Digital Technology that focuses on digital media explores communication through the use of digital media, allows students to use and apply digital tools and concepts for the management and presentation of information, produce a conceptual design, and demonstrate understanding of design elements.

Level 1 Digital Technology that focuses on computer programming gives students the opportunity to understand data representation and develop basic computer programming skills, use and apply digital tools and concepts for the management and presentation of information, and explore communication through the use of digital media.

Level 2‘
Level 2 Digital Technology that focuses on digital media explores effective communication through the use of digital media, allows students to develop a conceptual design, make and trial a prototype, and demonstrate understanding of how technological modelling supports risk management.

Level 2 Digital Technology that focuses on computer programming gives students the opportunity to use programming skills to solve a problem and to develop and refine a solution, demonstrate the application of digital tools for the management and presentation of information, and communicate effectively through the use of digital media.

Level 3
Level 3 Digital Technology that focuses on digital media gives students the opportunity to combine elements from digital media applications and apply relevant codes of practice to communicate effectively, develop and evaluate digital solutions within an organisation, develop a conceptual design, make and trial a prototype, and demonstrate understanding of how technological modelling supports risk management.

Level 3 Digital Technology that focuses on computer programming gives students the opportunity to use apply comprehensive knowledge of data structures to produce a solution, develop and evaluate digital solutions within an organisation, combine elements from digital media applications and apply relevant codes of practice to communicate effectively, develop a prototype, and critique a technological outcome's design.
